Just tonight, Governor orangebear22 signed SB392, the Lucas Amendment, written by Senator Just_Dapper. The LUCAS Act prohibits state employees from partaking in various political activities while on duty. It also prohibits them from rallying in political campaigns while on team.

The amendment guts the majority of provisions under the LUCAS Act, Chapter 3, concerning “Prevention of Pernicious Political Activities Provisions.” These screenshots highlight the repealed provisions.1,2 The safeguards having been repealed, agencies are now able to pursue political agendas during elections.

While this amendment may seem okay to the average resident of Mayflower, it is very harmful to state institutions as it erodes the neutrality that one would expect from a state employee who is on duty.

As the result of one of the repealed provisions, agencies are now allowed to gather employees to protest in political campaigns. Readers will remember that MBI did exactly this the during the governor recall elections!3 They illegally rallied in support of voting “no” on Orangebear22’s recall, and nothing serious was done to punish those who attended. If it is not damning enough already, the very senator who wrote this law was online during the MBI protests!4 Once this precedent is set, you will see departments playing tug-of-war over candidates they support and do not support.

I salute you Just_Dapper, you know how to further the interests of those you protect.
