Lander High School SAT Average Drops to All Time Low, Mayflower State University Considers Test-Optional

Lander, Mayflower — Last week’s school board meeting turned chaotic as parents and community members demanded action following a dramatic decline in SAT scores. The concerns come after the school board voted to close LeBron James High School for Black Excellence and merge its attendance zone with Lander High School during the 2001-2002 school year.

The especially loud voices raised concerns about a lack of diversity among the teaching staff, curricula that fail to adequately incorporate BIPOC histories and perspectives, and allegations of prejudice among some school faculty members.
Board members did not respond to questions or comments during the meeting. However, following the session, Board Member Nivea Russell, Esq., gave comment to reporters addressing the situation:
It’s the school, y’all. It’s this whole system that’s been set up against us. Parents supposed to be the first ones educating they kids, pouring into them every single day… but how they gon’ do that when so many fathers keep walking out, leaving single mamas to carry everything by they self? Fathers gotta show up. Families gotta stay together. Communities gotta stop making excuses. The real problem is accountability. And until we get serious about that, we gon’ keep failing our babies.”
The Clark County School Board will doing its workshop meeting on July 15th. The meeting will allow for public comment.
Rumors also indicate that Mayflower State University is considering to go test-optional for the 2003-2004 school year.

The LeBron James School for Black Excellence shouldve never been closed. Clearly if the schools stayed apart the Lander High School wouldve had better SAT scores.
